Hudun lies on the plateau in the Sool region of north-east Somalia, inland of Las Anod, above the Nugaal valley. The diagram below shows relative position, the road corridor, regional air access and the area held for development.

Why Hudun
Seven reasons this site, and not another.

Geography
Open, level plateau country with long uninterrupted sightlines — the terrain a track, training gallops and an arena need, without earthworks on a scale the project could not carry.

Climate
Arid, low-humidity conditions of the kind under which the regional horse was bred. Heat management, water supply and shade are the design constraints, and they are known constraints.

Cultural significance
Sool and the Nugaal are central to the mounted history of the Dervish period. Building the institution here places it inside the tradition rather than beside it.

Community support
The Hudun community agreed the transfer of the founding land in assembly. Community standing is the project's principal social licence and is treated as an asset to be maintained.

Available land
A contiguous holding large enough for a track, stabling, welfare and public facilities with room reserved for later phases — rather than a constrained parcel that forecloses growth.

Within reach of Las Anod as a regional centre, on an existing road corridor, with regional air access — the logistics baseline any fixture, veterinary supply chain or visitor programme requires.
